The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is the national awarding and accreditation body in Scotland, and a global leader in developing and providing internationally recognised and respected qualifications and assessment services. SQA’s qualifications are trusted by universities and higher education institutions worldwide.
SQA’s mission is to provide credible recognition of skills and knowledge through qualifications to support choice and progression in life and work.
SQA engages with learners, schools, colleges, universities, and training providers across Scotland, the rest of the UK and internationally, to develop, maintain, and improve a framework of qualifications, and to set and maintain standards for many other awarding bodies, and accredited qualifications.
The main areas of focus are the following:
· Certification and Assessment: SQA develops and administers a wide range of qualifications, including National Qualifications, Higher National Certificates/Diplomas, and other awards. These certifications serve as a reliable benchmark for academic achievement and are readily accepted by universities and colleges as part of their admission requirements.
· Quality Assurance: SQA ensures the consistency and quality of assessments, which higher education institutions rely on when admitting students. This commitment to maintaining high standards helps guarantee that learners are well-prepared for the demands of tertiary education.
· Curriculum Alignment: SQA collaborates with educators to align curriculum content, standards, and learning outcomes to ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for success at the higher education level. This alignment facilitates a seamless transition for students.

SQA is aiming to support Scottish Higher Education Institutions and their international strategy through the delivery of our qualifications and progression pathways to Scotland across SQA delivery centres in our international markets.
