International and collaborative

The partner organisations in Connected Scotland assist Scotland’s 19 higher education institutions and 26 colleges to position themselves as world leaders in higher education, and to become an international partner of choice in teaching, research and knowledge exchange.

Higher education is truly internationalised and institutions operate in a highly competitive market place. Scotland already competes successfully on the world stage with more world-class higher education institutions per head of population than any other country in the world. The value of the sector’s export income is derived from:

  • International student recruitment

  • The delivery of transnational education at Scottish campuses around the world and through in-country partner organisations

  • Research and commercialisation partnerships with business and industry, universities and other research organisations.

Connected Scotland aims to build on existing sector collaboration and identify additional opportunities of scale. The aim is to develop new collaborative ventures for Scotland’s higher education institutions, and support them in responding to new opportunities and challenges. Connected Scotland supports the sector’s aspirations for globally-connected research, attracting investment and diverse and talented people.

The aim is to build new and exciting collaborative ventures so Scotland’s higher education institutions can respond to new opportunities and gear up for the global challenges yet to come.

The Connected Scotland approach supports the sector’s aspiration to grow the value of its international export income.
